An ongoing pet peeve of the PPC Handyman is the tendency of two major search engines, Yahoo and MSN, to overstate their capabilities when it comes to their PPC advertising programs. There is perhaps no better example than Yahoo’s geographic targeting features.

In SEM circles, the Google Algorithm is referred to with such awestruck wonder as to make it an almost mythic creation, forged from hellfire and angel dust by Vulcan himself rather than in a grubby Silicon Valley garage by Stanford students in 1997. While the actual algorithm is a trade secret and only a few people are privy to its true nature, a lot can be gleaned from observation and common sense.
