Google Maps Adds a Little Bit of History

Posted on May 13th, 2008 in Industry News by Lorrin

Wikipedia articles are now being syndicated on Google maps. Under the more dropdown tab there is a little tickbox for the Wikipedia articles. When this box is checked, little Ws appear all over the map showing which places have a Wikipedia entry. These articles are a snippet of the original article but show enough to give the viewer a little bit of history. And if viewer is still curious, there is a link to the full Wikipedia article regarding that attraction.

Wikipedia on Google Maps

This is just one of the many neat features now available in Google maps, making it one of most comprehensive and user friendly map providers. It’s hard to imagine what else Google can possibly include in their maps and local map listings. The day I search for a local café and the aroma of fresh-brewed coffee wafts from my computer, I honestly don’t think I’ll be surprised.

I’m always amazed by how far ahead of everybody else Google is in every facet of this business. They always put the user experience first, and that makes all the difference.
