iPhone pushes Mobile Search

Posted on June 10th, 2008 in Local search marketing, Mobile Marketing by Erik

Apple is set to release the second generation iPhone (3G) next month. What does this mean for search marketers? Well, for starters it shrinks the browsing gap from PC to mobile device. With a faster wireless connection and lower price tag this is sure to attract a larger customer base than the first model.

Steve Jobs noted that:

98% of iPhone users are mobile browsing; 94% are using email; 90% are text messaging; 80% are using 10 features or more. “You can’t even find 10 features on other phones.”

It’s clear that the iPhone has made browsing the internet more accessible and with the added customer base this could really be the year for mobile. With the added GPS capabilities search results can now become more locally focused on such platforms as Google Maps.
