Real-Time Search Available on Google

Posted on March 3rd, 2009 in Social media marketing by Crystal

A new tool called Twitter Search Results on Google is now available, bringing real-time search one step closer to users. This new Greasemonkey script will add the five most recent tweets to your search results. A screenshot of the script at work can be seen at Search Engine Land along with some additional explanation. Twitter has proven its effectiveness in delivering news and information faster than some media outlets so it will be interesting to see if these Twitter results can pop up before broadcasters have made it on the air.

After the very recent demise of Rocky Mountain News, most likely due to its inability to grasp online, this further stresses the importance of journalists and news sources embracing social media and new online platforms. If anyone can break a news story faster through Twitter and be listed higher than traditional media sources, journalists best get on the Twitter band wagon and fast (or should I say, in real-time!).
