It is not difficult to see how social media is impacting the current generation as it is making it very simple for people from around the world to connect with each other and share common interests and ideas. The popularity of these networks has grown to an unimaginable scale where much of everyone’s daily lives revolve around a social networking website. Even more so than social use, many people have learned how inexpensive (sometimes free) and easy it is to reach your target audience through social media to announce the release a product, promote a brand and market your business.

You’ve heard the terms tossed around when discussing SEO tactics, one with a positive connotation and one with a negative. Naturally, white hat is the angelic one, describing SEO techniques that are viewed as ethical by the search engines and thus awarded long-term ranking. Menacing black hat SEO uses less acceptable, and some might argue, shady tactics to get a page to pop to the top of listings in a very short period of time.

There are so many factors that can boost rankings in map listings and the success of each can be debated over and over again, but one tactic everyone agrees on is the value of web citations. Only second to physical location in ranking probability, a web citation can have a huge impact on how well a business ranks in the 10 pack. This can be considered the link building of the local maps world and requires a similar constant effort.
