Tip of the Week: Participate in Journchat

Posted on December 1st, 2009 in Expert Tips, Social media marketing by Angie

The melding of social media and PR (and interactive marketing as a whole, for that matter) has created some great opportunities for professionals to learn, share and grow together. Journchat is one such opportunity that I recommend you take part in.

Journchat is a conversation that takes place on Twitter each Monday from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. CST. Using the hashtag #journchat, tweeters talk about social media, public relations, journalism, blogging and more. Participants are typically journalists, bloggers and PR peeps, although they’d never turn away an enthusiastic individual with relevant question and great insight. Journchat was created and moderated each week by @PRsarahevans. The quick-and-dirty rules are:

1. Quick intro (name, company, etc.); 2. Play nice; 3. Stay on topic; 4. No pitching; 5. Send questions to @PRsarahevens without hashtag and she’ll tweet them; 6. Let the chatting commence!

If you are active in the social media/PR world, or if you are simply interested in learning more about this industry, I strongly encourage you to check it out next Monday. Maybe just tune into the conversation the first time, then participate as you feel more comfortable. Check out last night’s transcript and be sure to follow @journchat and @PRsarahevans.

Thank you for mentioning #journchat as a resource. It’s my favorite part about Mondays. :)
