This week’s question is a tough one from Account Manager Philip Wong. Philip based his question on a recent survey conducted by Advertise.com and SEMPO regarding the most underutilized online marketing technologies. From the list below, what technologies topped the list of most underutilized at 46.3%, 18.3% and 15.9%, respectively?

Here’s the list:

Geo-targeting
Keyword targeting
Category targeting
Traffic source optimization
Remarketing/retargeting
Other

And here are your choices:

A)     Category targeting, Traffic source optimization, Other
B)      Geo-targeting, Keyword targeting, Remarketing/Retargeting
C)      Keyword targeting, Category targeting, Traffic source optimization
D)     Remarketing/Retargeting, Geo-targeting, Traffic source optimization

As always, leave your answer in the comments section and check back next week for the answer. Good luck!

Answer: The correct answer is D. Remarketing/retargeting (46.3%), geo-targeting (18.3%) and traffic source optimization (15.9%).

Of those who tried remarketing, 51% said that is was successful and some have recorded an increased response rate of up to 400%. So what are so few people using it? Could it be that they simply don’t know about this strategy? Or maybe it just seems to complicated at this point? Regardless of the reasons, it’s apparent that advertisers need to get on board the remarkteing train.

This survey also asked which strategy has produced the best ROI. The resounding winner: Search! 70.7% of respondents found search to be the best producer of ROI in online marketing. Did we really need a survey to tell us that?!
