The Buzz on Google Buzz

Let me start out by saying two things: 1. Yes, I know, the title is lame, you’re just going to have to live with it; and 2. Most of what I’m out to write is pure speculation,  As we all know, this industry can and does change very quickly.

Facebook Homepage Redesign 2010

Facebook Homepage Redesign 2010

So last night before heading to bed I logged on to Facebook, an all too common occurrence with me. Lo and behold, what’s this, a new homepage design?! It seems like just yesterday we were all in a flurry over the last homepage redesign that we thought ended our relationship with Facebook as we knew it. Of course we all adjusted and can hardly remember what it was like before and why we were so mad about it. However with this new redesign I am seeing more of the positives rather than the negatives. First off, my favorite reason for visiting Facebook is to see the pictures posted by all my “friends”.  Now when you sort your feed by photos, there is a much more efficient use of space, showing around 24 photos above the fold rather than the maybe 5 you would see before.

Google Maps Includes Social Media Links

Google Maps Includes Social Media Links

Although an advanced tactic, it’s no secret that a business can add their Facebook and Twitter pages to their Google Maps Places Page, but as of yesterday Google is now hyper linking these sites. Previously, Google would display these as a plain text URL and a searcher would have to copy and paste that URL into a browser, which would obviously never happen. Now, a new page is opened when each link is clicked.

Tip of the Week: How to Easily Share Docs on Twitter

Just because Twitter only permits a limited number of characters doesn’t mean that you can’t share larger documents with your tweeting brethren. TwitDoc allows you to upload a variety of different file types—Word, Excel, PPT, PDF, PS, Open Office and text—and dole out to your followers through a shortened URL. Files sizes can be up to 15 MB maximum. Additionally, you can upload and share graphics and photos up to 10 MB and videos up to 25 MB.
